This is one of Robert's "Electricity" paintings. These are paintings where Robert tries to make a strong visual, poetic and emotional effect with as few variables as possible.
In this piece a transparent blue flows over a detailed background of greys, light blues, greens and oranges. The fine mesh of the canvas is picked up by the transparent and palette knife applied painty giving an almost pop art atmosphere to the abstract painting with the canvas mesh looking like polka dots in Andy Warhol works. The title came about as the artist felt the painting had a sense of old World War I photos that had faded over time. The dripping blue paint could be seen as tears falling for all those affected by war.
